A massive gathering of people showed up on Friday afternoon at New York City’s Union Square for a giveaway hosted by two social media influencers, mega-popular Twitch streamer Kai Cenat and another streamer, Fanum.

TwitchTracker says that Cenat is the Twitch user with the most subscribers. The giveaway was supposed to happen at 4PM ET in Union Square Park, but by 3PM, the park was already full of people.

In an earlier video that Cenat shared from the inside of a car, he talked about giving away several PS5s and showed off a huge stack of $100 gift cards. When Cenat gets out of the car, the video quickly turns into chaos because the crowd falls on him and his group. Cenat also put up a stream on Twitch that lasted almost three minutes but didn’t show much.

ABC News said on Saturday that the streamer, Kai Carlos Cenat III, had been given a desk appearance ticket and let go early Saturday morning after being charged with at least two counts of starting a fight. A police spokesman told the Associated Press that Cenat will have to go to court on August 18.

Kai Cenat’s AMP (Any Means Possible) group’s Instagram story is the only public comment from those who helped plan the event. It says, “We apologize to everyone who was affected, and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.”

When asked about Cenat at a press conference after the incident, NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said, “We do have him,” but he didn’t say in which station. Maddrey said that the NYPD found out about the posts around 1:30 p.m. ET, before they went public at around 3 p.m. He said that some people in the crowd got violent, so the cops took Cenat out of the park and then said the gathering was illegal.

At a second news conference on Friday, Maddrey said that Cenat would be charged with “at least two counts” of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. At the time, he told reporters that 65 people had been arrested, including 30 minors. He also said that several civilians and police officers had to go to the hospital after the event to get treated for injuries. At least one teenager was hurt by fireworks, and some people broke bones.

Cenat and Fanum kept making posts on social media until Friday, when they stopped. One post on their Instagram stories said, “I love you guys to the fullest, you guys are amazing, THE LOVE FROM HOME BASE IS REAL, Please be safe.”
